호주의 도시에서 ‘빈치킨’(쓰레기새)이라 불리며 조롱받는 한 아이비스(호주흰따오기)는 쓰레기통을 뒤지며 하루하루를 버틴다. 어느 날 친구의 죽음을 목격한 그는 북쪽에 아이비스들의 낙원이 있다는 소문을 따라 낯선 숲과 강을 지나는 모험을 떠난다. 포식자의 위협과 산불 등 여러 역경을 헤쳐 나가며, 자신은 사람들이 붙인 이름 이상의 존재임을 깨닫고 잃어버린 본성과 자유를 되찾아간다.
〈빈치킨〉은 인간이 만든 환경 속에서 살아남은 생명의 정체성과 존엄, 그리고 자유를 향한 여정을 그린 작품이다.
In an Australian city, an ibis, mocked as a “bin chicken,” survives day by day by scavenging through garbage bins. One day, after witnessing the death of a close friend, the ibis sets off on an adventure into unfamiliar forests and rivers, following rumors of a paradise for ibises in the north.
Facing numerous hardships, including threats from predators and devastating bushfires, the ibis comes to realize that it is more than the name humans have given it. Along the way, it rediscovers its true nature and finds its way back to freedom.
