Spoken by hardly 25 people, Khamyang is in the UNESCO list of critically endangered languages worldwide. It falls in the large Tai Kadai language family spread across South East Asia and belongs exclusively to a Buddhist ethnic tribe of eastern Assam domicile. The documentary captures how a few leading activists from the community are trying their best to save India’s only monosyllabic language from extinction. A new chapter in the process of language revival is heralded, with youngsters learning their mother tongue through song and stage play.
